VINTAGE DESCRIPTION
Moderate spring conditions at the end of 2016 helped establish a healthy fruitset and better yields than the previous two seasons. January temperatures were warm, interrupted by one rainfall event late in the month, great viticulture management, clean, well-trimmed canopies and subsequent warm weather prevented disease risk. White varieties were harvested throughout February with elegant flavours and bright natural acidity.

This was a very cool vintage, with the fruit picked three weeks later than any time in the past 10 years. Yet the wine has great power, harnessed with the modern restraint and elegance that stamps Vasse's style. All natural yeasts and the high acidity meant it all went through malolactic fermentation, creating texture and complexity within the intense, powerful palate. Exceptionally long palate. Lovely wine and great value. As good as any Vasse has released in this range.

Light straw-yellow colour. The wine opens with a smoky note whether from oak or sulfides or both, and the longer it's in the glass, the more the pungent grapefruit powers through, together with lovely floral notes and spicy oak touches. The wine is intense on the palate and quite concentrated, with mouth-filling richness and firmness to close. A terrific chardonnay, especially at the price.

Complex and together white with cooked-apple, lemon-peel and cream aromas and flavors. Medium body, solid palate and a fresh and vivid finish. Always an excellent chardonnay. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
