The environment in Margaret River is pristine and unique. The temperature range, climate, maritime influence and ancient soils combine to create one of the world's most desirable destinations for premium viticulture.
CLIMATE
Margaret River experiences a Mediterranean climate of warm summers and wet winters. The winter rainfall is quickly replaced with sunshine in October which remains through to February providing long and dry growing seasons.
MARITIME INFLUENCE - SEA BREEZES
Particularly unique to the climate is its maritime influence. Margaret River is positioned on a cape, where it is surrounded by ocean on three sides. The natural sea breeze and current systems from the Indian and Southern oceans help regulate the seasonal temperatures, reducing extreme cold and heat within the vineyards.
The Leeuwin Current runs anti-clockwise down the Western Australia coast. It is the world's longest continuous coastal current and flows warm and shallow from the north. Its warmth is regulated in summer by strong south-westerly winds from the Southern and Indian oceans. These cooling breezes steady the ripening process for the development of phsiologically balanced fruit.
ANCIENT SOILS
The ancient soils are deep, well-drained gravel loam over clay which is ideal for vine health.
These environmental elements are ideal for producing fruit that is consistent in style, with pronounced varietal character and aroma.
